Do the Homa?

So, sometimes I come across something that inspires me so bad I have to try it immediately. Like when I was browsing the fuckyeahprettynails tumblr and found "the Homa manicure". I don't have a fucking clue what "Homa" is or means, but I loved this idea, and partly because it's on a difficulty level that I can manage. Somehow I pictured myself automatically getting almond shaped nails and all, but perhaps my own shape is fine too, and also, I picked out two colors that were a little less contrasting than the manicure that inspired me, but still, a vampy and a foil. The combination is spectacular. I landed on doing a warm purplish version, and used my favourite from OPI Touring America: I Brake For Manicures, and Sally Hansen Purple Gala, which can of course be found in all sorts of duplicates from several brands.

I did two coats of the OPI, and the Sally Hansen needed three. Rather pretty, don't you think? I love this kind of organized chaos. It's a little random except it's not random at all, it's perfectly symmetrical. I love that. Oh, I already used the word love in this context. Um. Love. Yes.

Now I want to do this Homa thingy in all sorts of combinations, eternally and forever. The only downside to that is the obvious: if I'd like to include both my hands in photos, I'll need help each time. Hence, the photos in this post was not shot by me (but weirdly enough I actually watermarked them?!), but by Fredrik D. Thank you, honey!

Swedish word of the day:
tvåfärgad -adjective two colored
For very obvious reasons.

  2. wow I like this idea!
and now I'm wondering what "homa" means. first I thought it could mean "home made" but I don't think that makes any sence! ;)

So please let us know if you ever find out what the meaning of it is! :)

And I will try this mani myself!

  3. You really inspired me with this one. I never would have thought to do anything like this but LOVE it! @Danny - I thought I knew what Homa meant and that it was not Swedish. I first put it into a Swedish to English on line dictionary and came up with Homa in English also...so I knew it was what I first thought. Here is the definition from Wikipedia: Homa, a religious practise in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, involving making offerings into a consecrated fire.

    1. Ahh! Well, let's say that was the imagery the inventor (whoever it was) was going for, or we'll spend forever in ignorance limbo! :D

  5. This is an actual manicure with a name?! I have been doing that, and other similar rearrangements of colors for YEARS! Lol! I used to get made fun of in school for it.

    1. Apparently someone thinks so, and, in a way putting a name on it could be practical for reference purposes. :) "I'm thinking of doing a Homa" just like "I'll be doing a Ruffian next". Maybe?

  7. haha! I do accent nails in an organized chaos pattern similar to this. I usually do accents on ring + thumb of left hand, and then index + pinkie of right hand ... so there's an accent nail every two nails. I love this combo too! I'm trying it! :D

Just few weeks ago I was doing something similar with two colors but I painted four nails with beige color and the middle finger was pink and on the other hand I switched colors, It looks fantastic and a little different

  11. LOL... no idea what "homa" is either, but I love the pattern used to switch up the 2 colors. I've been playing around with ways to use two colors and really like this! Might need to attempt...

  12. Visste inte heller att den här typen av manikyr faktiskt har ett namn, men jag brukade ha varianter av den då och då när jag var yngre.

Ps. Dina naglar är extremt snygga här!
